Merlene Woods Leggett, 81, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Memorial services will be held 3 PM, Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the Church of the Nazarene in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Barry Stephens and the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the sanctuary at the church.
Mrs. Leggett was born October 5, 1935, in Cook County, Georgia, to the late Robert Lee & Sarah Jane Graham Baker. She lived in the community all of her life and was a Registered Nurse. She received her LPN training at East Central Technical College, where she was the GOAL student and later received an associate’s degree from ABAC. Mrs. Leggett was an ER nurse supervisor at Dorminy Medical Center for over 20 years and later served as a Pink Lady. She was a member of the Wiregrass Quilting Guild. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she taught Sunday School and served as Missionary President. She also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Church.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Bill Leggett of Fitzgerald; children: Tim & Sandy Woods of Fitzgerald, Jan W. Morris of Americus and Chris W. Wells & Carroll of Fitzgerald; daughter-in-law, Debbie Woods of Fitzgerald; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Onnie Cook of Orlando, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert H. Woods; a son, Bobby Woods and a son-in-law, John Morris.
