Alice M. (Moniz) Arruda, 91, of New Bedford passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Wednesday December 7, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph S. Arruda.
Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Rufino and Maria (Neto) Moniz.
Mrs. Arruda was a graduate of the Kinyon-Campbell Secretarial School and worked at Colonial Textile and Grinnell Pajama Company.
She was a member of the Royal Travelers. She loved to travel, play cards, and spend time with her sisters and her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Carole A. Wallace and her husband Thomas of Mattapoisett; a son, Steven J. Arruda of New Bedford; a grandson, Andrew J. Wallace and his wife Meryl; a granddaughter, Victoria A. Wallace; her sisters, Gloria Tavares, Judith Davis, and Elvira "Vera" Correia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary Macedo, John, Joe, Joseph, Ralph, Gloria, Caroline, Mario, Henry, and Jordan Moniz.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 9 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 4-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
