Thomas P Canney 69, of Methuen passed away at his home on Thursday, December 8th, surrounded by his family. Tom was born in Lawrence MA on March 2, 1947 to Thomas and Frances (Kibirstis) Canney. He was educated in The Lawrence school system, and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1966. Tom also graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology, with a degree in industrial engineering. He was active in the Cub and Boy Scouts, Troop 51 of Methuen. Tom was also active in The Knights of Columbus, St. Monica's Council, and served as Past Grand Knight, as well as member of the fourth degree, and assembly 393. One of Tom's favorite associations was with The Ancient Order of The Hibernians, where he served as Chairman of the Standing Committee, and also The Essex County Board of AOH. Tom was awarded Irish Man of the year in 2015.
Tom leaves his wife of forty years, Ruth (Allard) Canney, daughter Heather Cole of Plaistow, son Aaron and his wife Nicole of Manchester, two grandchildren, Alexis and Jake Cole of Plaistow, brother and sister in law, Robert and Linda Allard of Seabrook, as well as four nieces, two nephews, and many cousins. He will be greatly missed by his two cats, Moose and Shirley.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 9:00AM in St. Monica Church 212 Lawrence St. Methuen, MA, 01844. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
