Ike Monroe Johnson, Jr., 90, of Tifton passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Sparks Retirement Home. His funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Family members will give eulogies. Mr. Johnson will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 10:00 until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Johnson’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 22, 1926 in Tifton, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Ike Monroe Johnson, Sr. and Ellen Vining Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ilone Junkins Johnson, who passed away in 2013; a daughter, Joni Johnson Langston; a sister, Frances Johnson Young; and three brothers, Vernon Johnson, Jessie Johnson and Paul Johnson. He was retired as owner of I. M. Johnson Furniture Company in Tifton and a member of Tifton’s Second Baptist Church for 50 years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director, Training Union Director and taught the Young Adult Sunday School class for 20 years. He was a member of Gideons International for 25 years, served as President for two years and was dedicated to spreading the Word through distributing Bibles. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in the United States Army National Guard.
Mr. Johnson is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Jill Johnson of Albany; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Herman Henry of Brookfield and Janice and Rob Patrick of Chula; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle and Kyle Militano, Brandt Patrick, Brock Patrick, Lance Caulder, Casey and Cody Connell, Caleb and Jennifer Johnson and Kelly and Tommy McBride; and twelve great-grandchildren, Isabella Militano, Sophia Militano, Brooklyn Patrick, Zoey Aycock, Ian Caulder, Chance Caulder, Brianna Johnson, Chloe Johnson, Londyn McBride, Elijah McBride, Lola McBride and Laykan Connell.
