Obituary

Edward J. Duggan, 89, of Medway, MA passed away December 1, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was husband to his beloved wife Elizabeth for 35 years, every year more wonderful than the last.

He was born July 12, 1927 in Boston, spent much of his youth in Malden and Everett, and joined the Marines at the age of 17 in 1945. After being discharged he attended New England College, where he could most often be found on the lacrosse field, heading home often to spend time with his family who had then moved to “The Farm” in Hillsboro, NH.

He worked as a finance manager for RCA for several years and loved being involved with his community. He served as Clerk of the Works for the renovation of the Medway Village St. fire station, was on the building committee for the new Summer St. fire station, and served for many years on the Medway Library Board of Trustees.

More than anything, Ed loved being surrounded by friends and family, and he collected friends wherever he went. A devoted grandfather, “Papa” was a familiar face for years at every Medway soccer and basketball game his granddaughters participated in.

Ed is survived by his daughter Beth MacLeod, her husband Noel Anderson, and his granddaughters Sarah, Julia and Elizabeth MacLeod of Medway, his son Dan and his wife Susan, and his grandsons Daniel and William of Natick. Ed was one of 13 children and leaves behind a number of much-loved siblings, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two children from a previous marriage, Gary Duggan of North Carolina and Penny and Chip Thomas of Pennsylvania, and grandchildren Charles, Chris and Leigh Anna.

A funeral Mass will be held on December 17 at 10 am at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St., Medway. Interment will follow at Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made, in his honor, to his favorite childhood charity, The Salvation Army, 1500 Washington St., Boston, MA 02118. Salvation Army Website
