Douglas Oberlander, the beloved husband of Carol and devoted father to Elisabeth Anne (Oberlander) Floriano, passed away on Tues., Dec. 6, 2016.
He attended Ohio Weslyan and graduated from American University in Washington, D.C. with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He served three years in the Army in Panama. He was an accountant at Canalco in Maryland and Carter-Wallace in New York City, where he was the corporate financial manager. He resided in Bethesda, Md., Vienna, Va., Larchmont, N.Y., and Weston and Mystic.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying water skiing, motor boating, swimming, fishing, target shooting, archery, canoeing, tennis, hiking and bicycling. He loved horses, his dogs, reading and looking out his kitchen windows to watch planes and birds with his trusty binoculars. He was a kind, considerate, friendly, loving man who enjoyed being with his family and friends. He loved and was loved every day.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Elisabeth and son-in-law, Josh; his stepfather-in-law, Richard Rooney; his brothers, Richard and Robert; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Thank you to Academy Point at Mystic and Vitas Hospice who provided for his final care in a conscientious and loving manner.
Contributions may be considered in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association . or the Groton Animal Foundation.
