WAYLAND: Jack A Williams, 99, died peacefully and with dignity surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 4, 2016 following a period of declining health.
He was born in Portsmouth, South Hampton, England on October 18, 1917 the son of the late Arthur W. Williams and Stella (Skrine) Williams.
Jack was the beloved husband of the late Barbara G. (Akers) Williams who died in 1997.
He was the loving father of Marilyn L. Williams and her husband William F. Sullivan of Litchfield, New Hampshire; Edward R. Williams and his wife Jacqueline Williams of Wayland; Thomas M. Williams and his wife Dale Williams of Tyngsborough; the late Guy A. Williams who died in 2005 and the late Peter H. Williams who died in 2011.
Devoted grandfather of Douglas Williams, Christopher Williams and David Williams and cherished great-grandfather of Meghan, Lucy, Charlie, Jack and Ryan Williams. Also survived by his brother, Thomas Williams of Wayland and the late Alfred Williams; Vivien Murray and Irene McBride, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Jack had been a longtime resident of Weston and moved to Wayland in 1989. He graduated from Weston High School with the Class of 1936. He received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University and his Masters Degree in Business Administration also from Northeastern University. He had a long and distinguished career with Raytheon which began when he was in college with the Co-op program and retired after 40 years as an Electrical Engineer in the Waltham and Quincy Facilities.
Jack served his country proudly with honor and pride as a T/Sgt with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He loved gardening especially his prized tomato plants which he still planted this past summer while overseeing family members that it was done properly. He enjoyed fishing, the Boston Red Sox, watching the birds at his home in Wayland and will be fondly remembered for his love of writing limericks and his quick sense of humor.
In his earlier years he was active as a troop leader for his sons Boy Scout troop and was a longtime active member of the Baptist Church in Weston where he served in many administrative positions as well as a tenor in the church choir. He was a member of the Wayland American Legion Post 133.
There is no doubt that Jack was a character, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, brother and friend to everyone who knew him.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 659 Boston Post Road, Weston with the Rev. Dr. Frank Armstrong officiating.
Interment will follow in the Williams family lot in Linwood Cemetery in Weston.
