Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Joyce A. Doyle, 84, a longtime resident of Wolcott Street in Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on September 20, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Francis A. and Helen (Hannon) Doyle. She was raised in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from the former Sacred Heart Elementary School and Cathedral High School, both in Springfield. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from The College of Our Lady of the Elms in Chicopee. She was employed for many years as an Elementary School Teacher and worked for the City of Springfield at the Howard Street Elementary School. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. She was an Associate of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving brother, Francis A. “Beau” Doyle, Jr. who was Called Home on May 5, 1948. She leaves many cherished cousins, numerous friends and many colleagues. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, December 10, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in her memory to the Sacred Heart Church Renovation Fund, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the College of Our Lady of the Elms, 291 Springfield Street, Chicopee, MA 01013.
