Sandra “Kay” Greene, age 71, entered into rest on November 30, 2016 at her home in Grandview. She was born on July 13, 1945 to Claude E. and Margaret Louise (O’Bryan) Patterson in Bartlett, Tennessee where she was raised and educated. She later lived in Norfolk, Virginia where she worked as a waitress and met her future husband, Harry James Greene. The couple married on March 12, 1966 in Illinois. In April of 1967, they settled in Grandview, Washington where she worked at the 10-4 Café, Libby’s, Grandview Herald and owned and operated the Radio Shack and Video Electronics in Prosser from 1982 to 1987. She later went to work at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation for 20 years, retiring in 2013.
Kay was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and Am Vets in Grandview and the Lion’s Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed going to yard sales, the casino, and the 10-4 for a cup of coffee with friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her daughters, Katherine Greene of Grandview, Dawn Greene Hurt (Daniel Rice) and Lorene Greene (Jeff Stoneking) of Prosser; her sister, Claudette “Barbara” Cain of Indiana; her half-sisters and half-brothers, Gloraleigh Smith and Judy Boles of Missouri, William Carroll of Tennessee, Patsy Sonnetag, Richard Patterson, Anita Waldrip and Angela Patterson Bell and her step-mother, Gennieva Patterson of Texas; her aunt, Ebbie Ann of Louisiana; her brothers-in-law, Bud Greene and Earl Stuckel of Othello and sisters-in-law, Mae Nelson of Ocean Park and Mary Danson of Grandview. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tyler Greene, Violet Greene-Buzzell, Jerod Bancroft, Ashley Bender, Michael Bender, Steven Hurt, Rebecca Hurt, Crystal Bender, Tiffany Bender Schloss and Joshua Thompson; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry J. Greene in 2000; her parents, Claude and Margaret; her grandparents, Jim and Willie Josephine O’Bryan, who raised her; half-sister, Gail Carroll; half brother, Kenneth Carroll; great-grandson, Adam Cervine; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Leonard Greene; and sister-in-law, Margaret Stuckel.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Nazarene Church in Grandview. Concluding services and burial will be held at the Grandview Cemetery, followed by a reception held at Anchor Point Church in Grandview. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, December 9 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Prosser Funeral Home.
