Michael Peter Costa, 56, of New Bedford died Saturday December 3, 2016 after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Mary Angelina (Britto) Costa and Christopher Peter Costa, Sr., he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Michael was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Department of Public Infrastructure until his retirement.
He was a former member of the Verdean Vets Drum and Bugle Corps.
He was a jokester, who loved dancing and watching cooking shows. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed all the New England sports teams, especially the Patriots.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Lorraine Araujo; his dedicated caregiver whom he considered as a daughter, Rebecca Andrade; his siblings, Wayne Christopher Costa, Diane Marie Andrade, Christopher Peter Costa, Jr., Sandra Ann Ushery, Cynthia Olla Culliver, Sharon Lynn Costa, and Shawn Joseph Costa; many nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday December 8, 2016 at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
