Gerald Robert Gallagher, 67, of Olyphant, died Friday at Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jane Gallagher.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Robert and Geraldine Gallagher, he was a graduate of Holy Rosary High School and was employed by the Scranton School District until his retirement.
He was known to his family as "Papabear" and to his friends as "Gal." He was well- known as an outdoors man and loved to teach his children and grandchildren to hunt, fish and to respect all wildlife.
He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by a son, Jerry; daughter, Karen; and granddaughters, Ashley and Katelin.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, William Street, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
