Obituary

Robert Emery Thayer Jr., 69 of Medway, Massachusetts returned to Our Lord after a courageous battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia known as Picks Disease on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Robert was born July 31, 1947 in Norwood, Massachusetts to the late Robert and Bernice (Delaney) Thayer.

Robert was a graduate of Franklin High School Class of 1965 and Franklin Institute of Boston with a degree in Electrical Technology. A licensed Master Electrician, licensed HVAC Technician and a licensed Massachusetts Realtor.

Robert worked as a Master Electrician at the former Medfield State Hospital, Polaroid Corporation of Waltham and retired after 32 years from the Raytheon Corporation.

Robert served his country for six years in the United States Naval Air Reserve at South Weymouth Air Base in the Air Crew Survival Team as a Naval Air Technician.
Robert loved the game of softball and was a winning team member of the 1975 Franklin Town League Championship along with brothers Bill and Jerry.

Bob resided in Medway for 40 years. On the Fourth of July you could find Bob dressed in his red, white and blue outfit with his Uncle Sam top hat on. He was known as the Mayor of Colonial Road. He donated and volunteered his skills to many Medway town projects to include assisting in the electrical work on the ballpark concession stand at the new Medway High School. He was active in volunteering with the Medway Lions. The Medway Board of Selectman acknowledged and thanked Bob for his service to the residents of Medway.

In his youth Robert served many years as an altar server with brothers William, Gerald and Brian at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin. His Catholic faith and love for Jesus was the foundation of Robert’s life.

Home was Bob’s castle, you could find him working around his yard, barbecuing, playing music and offering hospitality to family and friends. Bob brought joy and love to all who crossed his path in life. You could always find Bob with a bright smile and jovial laugh.

Robert is survived by his wife Debra (Slatkavitz) Thayer of 22 years. His brothers William and wife Joanne of Carrollton, Texas, Gerald and his wife Laurie of Franklin, MA and Brian and his fiancée Amy of Franklin, MA. His stepchildren Tiffany and Chris Magliaro of Medway, MA and Richard and Jamie Fernandes of Mendon, MA. Father in law William Slatkavitz, sister in law Pamela and Edward Brisson of Vermont, Sherry and Rusty Jones of Florida, Cynthia Wyatt of Bellingham, Donna Slatkavitz of Cape Cod, Eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Robert’s calling hours on Thursday, December 8 from 4:00-8:00PM in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street, Medway.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin on Friday, December 9 at 10:00AM.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oakland Street, Medway.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his name to Dr. Dickerson's Dementias Research Fund at the Massachusetts General Hospital
