Evans, GA - Anne Wood Galloway, 86, of Evans, GA, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 at University Hospital, surrounded by family.
She was born in Bibb County, the daughter of the late Thomas Miller Wood, Sr. and Leuna Baskin Wood. Mrs. Galloway was reared in Macon, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Wood Feole, and her brother, Thomas Miller Wood, Jr.
Anne graduated cum laude from Mercer University with majors in sociology and psychology. She attended graduate school at Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, OH. During her fellowship in clinical psychology at Ohio Wesleyan, she served on the Dean of Women’s staff.
In 1954, Anne married an Augustan, Ronald Frost Galloway. They remained in Augusta where Dr. Galloway practiced as a thoracic surgeon until his death in 1998.
Anne served as the president of the Richmond County Medical Auxiliary in 1965. She was also on the Augusta Symphony Board and in 1989, became the first female president of The Augusta Symphony Board, later recognized as an Honorary Member.
An avid tennis and golf player, she served as president of the Augusta Country Club Ladies’ Golf Association from 1996-1997. And it’s worth noting that she made a par on the famous 16th hole at the Augusta National during an outing with a golfing friend.
In 1972, Anne authored, ‘Lights and Shadows: A History of the University Hospital School of Nursing - 1894-1970.’ She undertook this project because of her respect for nurses with whom her husband shared the art of healing.
She is author of two published books, ‘Nine Warm Smiles: Joy from the Mouths of Babes,’ and ‘My Humble Brethren’, a collection of short stories about her many pets since childhood, inspired by her love for Saint Francis of Assisi.
Anne was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Augusta and a member of the Anna Bannister Sunday School Class.
Anne is survived by a son, Ron Galloway Jr. of Augusta, Lee Anne and Robert Daniel of Albany, GA, and a son, Robert Galloway and his fiance, Laura Lipka of Charleston, SC. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Katy Frost and Thomas Galloway of Augusta, Robert, Lance Corporal Andrew Daniel, and Grace Daniel of Albany, and Tillson, John, and Patton Galloway of Charleston, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel with Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Burial will be private.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Anna Bannister Sunday School Class, Dr. Alva Faulkner, Chuck Thompson, and Linda Faulkner.
