Obituary

NEW BEDFORD -- William E. Travers, 81, of Dartmouth and formerly of Boca Raton, Fla., died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Louise A. (Heyliger) Travers.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Manuel H. and Marie C. (Frings) Travers, and was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1941.
Mr. Travers served in the United States Coast Guard from 1942-1946. During his lifetime, he was employed for 38 years by the New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Company, where he was a licensed electrician and foreman, retiring in 1980.
He then moved to Boca Raton with his wife, where he resided for 17 years, returning to Dartmouth several years ago. His special interests were gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his widow; a son, David Travers of Merritt Island, Fla.; a daughter, Ann Travers of Cocoa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2005, from the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford, followed by a Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Slocum Road, Dartmouth, Ma. at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
