Geraldine M. (Hopkins) Hodkinson, 90, of Swansea, MA passed away on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Harold J. Hodkinson, Jr.
Geraldine or “Jerry” was born in Springfield, MA and was the only child of the late Michael P. Hopkins and the late Mildred (Moran) Hopkins. She grew up in Fall River and was a member of the 1943 graduating class of Dominican Academy. She worked in the office at the Fall River Telephone Company and the Ladies Garment Workers and moved to Long Island, NY in 1954. She relocated to Swansea, MA in 1959 and remained there to the present.
Jerry was very active in her community and held many positions within the St. Michael’s Catholic Women’s Club including several terms as president and was a recipient of the Marian Award. She was also a current and active member of the Swansea Council on Aging. She also worked as a bank teller for the Fall River Trust Company and then took a teller position at St. Dominic’s Federal Credit Union in Swansea and retired after many years of service. Jerry loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially Wanda and Dot and enjoyed traveling; fortunate to visit 22 countries.
She is survived by her children, Debra A. (Hodkinson) Desmarais of Westport, Michael P. Hodkinson of Swansea, Harriet J. (Hodkinson) Desrochers of Dartmouth; Robin M. Hodkinson of Tiverton, in 2014 lost her youngest son, the late Harold J. Hodkinson, III and was mother-in-law of Gerard L. Desrochers and the late Gary L. Desmarais.
Besides her children she is survived by her 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 23 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life Mass will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Swansea at 11:00A.M.
Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
