Obituary

Robert “Bob” Sherman, 94, passed away on November 27, 2016 at Bethany Pointe Health Campus Anderson.

Robert was born August 22, 1922 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts to George W. and Eliza Jane (Campbell) Sherman.

Bob grew up in West Lafayette, IN ,was a member of St. John's Episcopal Boys’ Choir, a graduate of West Side High School and Purdue University. He moved to Anderson in 1943 to work for Delco Remy and retired after 39 ½ years. Bob coached Little League; was a Boy Scout leader, worked at the Music and Hobby Shop, and was on several baseball and bowling teams. He loved photography and was a member of the Delco Remy and Muncie Camera Clubs. Bob won several awards for his photographs including many International Salons.

He was a member of First Baptist Church for 71 years and served in many capacities as well as church treasurer. He was a past president, life member and a 1991 Golden Deeds recipient of the Noon Exchange Club where he was an avid supporter of their Resource Center for the prevention of child abuse.

Bob was a graduate of the Leadership Academy; board member of Madison County Visitor's /Convention Bureau; and the Rangeline Center. He was inducted into the Little 500 Hall of Fame in 2000 and was the official photographer for Miss Indiana Pageant for many years.

All the staff at Bethany Pointe gave Bob excellent care and they became part of the family. Thank you Bethany!

Survivors include his daughters, Margaret (Ross) Buckman and Jean (Ken) Whitsell-Sherman and grandson, Michael Whitsell-Sherman of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen (Halsema) Sherman, who he married on June 9, 1945; brother, George William Sherman, III.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 907 North Raible Avenue; Anderson, IN 46011.

Entombment will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery.
