CHICOPEE – Susan M. “Suzie” Vachon, 70, of the Doverbrook Estates in Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, November 24, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, South Carolina surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on August 10, 1946, a beloved daughter of the late Aime Vachon and Irene A. (Bergeron) Vachon-Lambert. She was raised in Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1964 and had lived in the Aldenville section of Chicopee for many years. She moved to the Hampton Ponds area of Southampton in 1988 and enjoyed her home there for many years before returning to Chicopee in 1999. She was employed as a property manager for Maple Commons in the Springfield area and later worked as a realtor for Century21 in Westfield. Although she held many occupations throughout her entire life, her most recent and most beloved employment endeavor was the years she spent working with “Her Guys” as a Direct Service Worker at an adult male group home for the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services. An avid golfer, square dancer and boater, she golfed in the Wednesday night Westover Golf Course League in Chicopee and was a member of the Western Mass. Yacht Club in South Hadley. Above all, she loved all of her family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her beloved step-father, John Lambert; and her two former husbands, James Allen and Peter A. Fortin, Sr. She leaves her two beloved children, Holly M. Cooke and her fiancée, Lindsey McCray, of South Hadley and Peter A. Fortin, Jr. and his companion, Kelly Everhart, of Conway, SC; her dear former daughter-in-law, Renee Hetu of Southampton; her five cherished grandchildren who will deeply miss their “Mimi”, Danielle I. Cooke, Nicole A. Cooke and McKenzie J. Cooke, all of South Hadley and Alexis R. Hetu and Tyler S. Hetu, both of Southampton; her cherished great-grandson, Jack who lovingly referred to her as “The Great One”; her brother, Ronald A. Vachon and his wife, Diane, of New Port Richie, FL; her sister, Patricia A. Harker and her husband, William, of Charlemont; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family members. She also leaves several beloved lifelong friends who are considered to be part of her family. In addition to her family and friends, she also leaves her beloved companions, her Yorkshire Terrier, Neesa; and her African Grey Parrot, Oliver. Her family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2016 from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 2 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will be private at the convenience of her family.
