Obituary

BEVERLY: John R. Wightman, 80, died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the Essex Park Nursing Center, Beverly following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn M. (Babcock) Wightman.

Born in Beverly on August 28, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond and Evelyn (O’Brien) Wightman. He was a lifelong resident of Beverly and had attended Beverly public schools. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. John was employed by Trowt Movers in Beverly for over twenty years before his retirement.
In addition to his wife of fifty-seven years, he is survived by his daughter, Linda Collins and her husband, Bruce of Danvers; his son, John R. “Jack” Wightman of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Adam C. Collins, Jessica A. Collins and Bruce W. Collins, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Lawler and her husband, Pat and a nephew, Larry Ambrose. He was also predeceased by his sister, Margaret Ambrose.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 1 – 3 P.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the PACE Program, 100 Cummings Center, Beverly, MA 01915 or to the First Baptist Church, 221 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915.
