Helen L. Welsh, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. She was 93 years of age.
Helen was born in Boston on June 13, 1923, a daughter of the late Arthur R. Welsh and Ellen M. (O'Connell) Welsh. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system, and graduated from Charlestown High School. Helen worked as a Special Clerk for the Boston Field Office of the F.B.I. and retired after 30 years of dedicated service to her country. Helen also worked for many years as an Assistant Secretary for Cardinal Richard Cushing in the Archdiocese of Boston for several years. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed ballroom dancing, line dancing and painting. Helen was very devoted to her beloved dog Barney and on any given day, you could see Helen and Barney walking on Bunker Hill Street in Charlestown.
Helen is the beloved daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen (O'Connell) Welsh. She is the devoted sister of the late Frances Hartnett, Alice Welsh, Mary Miles, Dorothy Baker, Catherine O'Brien, Arthur Welsh, and Ann Zwonik. She is also lovingly survived by her beloved dog Barney and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's Funeral on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 9 AM. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. CHARLESTOWN followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 AM. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Helen's visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 2 to 6 PM. in the funeral home.
