Simonne R. Roy
Manchester– Simonne R. Roy, 93, died November 29, 2016 at Hanover Hill Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
She was a lifelong resident of Manchester, NH, born in 1923, the daughter of Joseph and Augustine (Marquis) Gagnon. She was a graduate of Manchester High School West where she worked on the school newspaper and later enjoyed many years of reunions with fellow graduates and friends.
Simonne worked at St. Mary’s Bank for 45 years alongside her husband, Raoul “Ralph” W. Roy, where she retired as a comptroller. She was dedicated to perfectly balancing the books at the end of each month, sometimes staying late into the night to make sure every penny was accounted for. She enjoyed her career, working full-time while raising a family, at a time when it was less common for women to have a career outside the home. At the same time, she was a meticulous seamstress and sewed many items of clothing for her children. She enjoyed bringing family and friends together for meals, treating them to her French-Canadian specialties. After her retirement, she shifted her focus to caring for her four grandchildren, playing golf and traveling with her husband, enjoying bingo with friends, quilting, and spending time with her sisters and other family members.
She was a parishioner at St. Jean Baptiste and for many years served as the Treasurer of the Dames de St. Anne Society.
Family members include her daughter, Constance “Connie” Roy-Czyzowski of Manchester, her son, Richard L. Roy and his wife, Claire, of Hoschton, GA., four grandchildren, Evan Czyzowski, Stefan Czyzowski, Andrew Czyzowski, Bradley Roy, her sister, Irene Chaput, sister–in-law, Therese Gagnon, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raoul “Ralph” W. Roy, her two brothers, Roland and George Gagnon, and a sister, Marguerite Gagnon.
