DUDLEY – Rose Paula (Stelmach) Lyle, a wonderful lady, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2016, at the age of 97 at her home in the presence of her family. Her husband of 52 years, Robert K. Lyle, Sr., died in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara and her husband James Pelczarski of Windsor, CT, son Robert K. Lyle, Jr. of Dudley, daughter Linda and her husband Mark Sullivan of Newburyport, son Michael of Canton, daughter Heidi Lyle and her husband Frank Jarmolowicz of Ipswich, daughter Susan Lyle of Sutton and Sandra Desourdy of Fiskdale; a sister, Loraine Snyder of Colchester, CT; 14 grandchildren, Keith, Kristin, Patrick, Laurel, Jasiu, Stephen, Brian, Jocelyn, Eileen, Peter, Daniel, Eric, Michael and Andrew; 3 great-grandchildren, Max, Tatum and Sadie Rose; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 8 brothers and 4 sisters.
She was born in Dudley on March 28, 1919, the ninth of the fourteen children of Joseph and Barbara (Pyra) Stelmach and lived here most of her life.
Mrs. Lyle worked as a stitcher at B & W Footwear Company in Webster for many years. She retired in 1981. She also was a waitress part-time at Point Breeze Pavilion.
She was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church. She loved to knit and to sew until her vision failed, and made countless afghans and sweaters for family and friends over the years.
She loved children and recently enjoyed the company of Richie and Mary. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally.
Her memory was prodigious: even late in life, she could tell you the birthdays and anniversaries of relatives and friends off the top of her head. A birthday card from the “queen of birthdays” seldom failed to arrive on time.
She regularly attended the reunions of her husband Robert’s WW II Army battalion even after his passing.
The funeral will be held Saturday, December 10, at 11:00 AM in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road (please meet at the church). Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to Tri-Valley, inc., 10 Mill St., Dudley, MA 01571.
