Johnnie J. Luke, Sr., 91, of Wilcox County, Georgia, died Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Luke Cemetery, Ben Hill County, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Luke was born June 26, 1925, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late John J. & Celia Elizabeth Fuller Luke. He was a graduate of Abbeville High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army having been stationed in occupied Japan. Mr. Luke was a lifelong farmer, celebrating 70 years of tilling the land. He served as a Wilcox County Commissioner for 28 years and served many years on the Regional Mental Health Board in Dublin. He was a longtime member of Rochelle Lodge #190 F.&A.M. and he loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of Rochelle United Methodist Church.
Mr. Luke is survived by his children and their spouses: Kenneth & Maureen Luke of Alpharetta, Johnny J. Luke, Jr. & Dianne of Fitzgerald, Danny & Jamie Luke of Fitzgerald, and Christy Luke Guy & Allen of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Stephanie Luke, Emily Luke-Davis & Ryan, Josh Luke, Kelly & Shae Singletary, Ryan Luke and his fiancé Bridgett Young, Luke Guy and Logan Guy; and great-grandchildren: Brodie Singletary, Hayden Singletary, Liam Luke, Kyler Kirkland, and Elissa Kirkland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Sarah Fitzgerald Luke and Louise Pate Luke; and three brothers.
