The daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Sipsey) Sline, she was born in Salem, NH on June 28, 1924. Dorothy was educated in St. Mary’s elementary school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She graduated from the McIntosh Secretarial School in Lawrence and attended Boston University.
For many years, she worked at Sutherlands on Essex Street in Lawrence, MA. Dorothy was a Stay-at-Home Mom, who went back to work to ensure her children would have college educations. She worked at the Andover/NorthAndover YMCA and retired from DPRO, a division of the Department of Defense at Raytheon in Burlington, MA.
In her early years, Dorothy loved summers at Salisbury and Hampton beaches. In her later years, she traveled to England, Ireland and North Carolina. Dorothy also enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and attending the shows.
One of Dorothy’s biggest adventures was a trip to Alaska with her son. They took a northbound train, with fast-paced stops in Juneau, Ketchikan and Denali National Park. She enjoyed a more leisurely cruise through Glacier Bay, southbound to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Dorothy took her first helicopter ride and walked on a glacier, all at the young age of 81.
Dorothy was known for taking simple things and making them beautiful. She would spend hours wrapping gifts and decorating her Christmas tree. She enjoyed driving through local towns looking at the Christmas lights.
During a hurricane in the nineties, Dorothy rescued a cat with newborn kittens, took them into her home and cared for and loved them.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, her greatest treasures, who she lived with in Nashua, NH for the last five years.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Walter E. Eldredge, Jr., her brothers, Joseph Sline and Thomas Sline.
Members of her family include her son Christopher J. Eldredge of Lawrence, MA, daughter Karen D.
