Obituary

Loretta L. (Picard) Bernard, 100, of Beverly passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 24, 2016, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Sylvio J. Bernard with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Loretta came to Salem in 1928. For many years she worked in the electronic products industry in Salem and Beverly, retiring from the former Comdel of Beverly in 1980.

Loretta was devoted to her family, very large extended family and her many friends. Good natured, she had an engaging smile, infectious laugh and was always fun to be around. In her earlier years, she was an avid bowler. Loretta was a passionate Red Sox fan for most of her adult life. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish.

She is survived by two sons, Arthur Bernard and his wife Caroline of St. Augustine, FL, Sylvio J. Bernard, Jr. and his wife Jean of Beverly, a daughter, Elizabeth Rankin of Beverly, a sister, Patricia Manos of San Marcos, CA. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Richard Bernard and her daughter, Doris Pitreau, brothers, Edmond and Charles Michaud and sisters, Yvette Zientak, Fabiola Vazza, Eva Lawicki, Aldea Corneau and Nancy Capozzi.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 9:00 AM to be followed by her Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd, Salem at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, at the funeral home, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
