W. D. Evitt, Sr., 77, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 27, 2016, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Bryan Luke and Fred Ratliff officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Evitt was born August 20, 1939, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Roy and Maudine Cone Evitt. He served his country honorably in the United States Army and was recognized for meritorious service as a communications chief. Mr. Evitt was a self-employed roofer and worked with his father and brothers. He was also owner and operator of Evitt’s Used Furniture and Variety store in Fitzgerald and was a PTI driver for the railroad. Mr. Evitt enjoyed auctions, had a great sense of humor and loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years: Rosemary Evitt of Fitzgerald; four children: Keith Wesley Evitt, Sheila Evitt & Fred Ratliff, Vicky Munn & Jerry and Wesley Evitt, Jr. & Jackie, all of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Sybil Hodnett & Carl of Griffin, Elaine Vining & Earl of Griffin and Sujette Giddens & Tommy of Fitzgerald. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Wayne Evitt, Lonnie Evitt and Paul Evitt.
