Wendell R. Ricks, 64, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, November 21, 2016, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Arbor Baptist Church in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge and the Rev. Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Ricks was born September 22, 1952, in Quitman, Georgia, to the late Joseph Brackston & Leila Belle Hughes Ricks. He was a graduate of Lowndes County High School. He worked as a route salesman for Colonial Bakery and as an independent distributor with Flowers Bakery and was known throughout the community as “The Bread Man”. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports. Along with his wife, he enjoyed camping and riding in his Corvette. Mr. Ricks was an avid Purple Hurricane fan and enjoyed listening to the games on the radio. His favorite pastime was talking with friends and strangers alike. He loved children and made friends with all he met. He attended Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Janice Ricks of Fitzgerald; a daughter, Misty & Chris Ivey of Fitzgerald; two grandsons: Brackston Ivey and Brady Ivey, both of Fitzgerald; two brothers: Wayne & Elaine Ricks and Ronnie Ricks & Kay Price Hall, all of Valdosta; and an uncle, Glenn & Lillian Ricks of Moultrie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Ricks.
