Stanley W. Kowalczyk, 61, of Medford, died on November 20, 2016. He graduated from UMass Amherst in 1977 and Boston College in 1978 with a Master’s Degree in nursing. He was a well-known nursing professor who taught over 800 students during his 30 year career of teaching at Somerville Hospital School of nursing, Youville Hospital School of Nursing and Quincy College and was selected to be keynote speaker several times at the Somerville Hospital School of Nursing commencement exercises. He spent many years playing the accordion professionally and worked as the Music Director for St. Anthony’s Church in Somerville.
Stanley had a zest for life and traveled on 82 cruises to all parts of the world with his many friends. He also published his own cookbook called “You’ll Die Happy” that featured artery-clogging recipes which, if eaten daily, were sure to shorten your lifespan but would satisfy your hunger pangs. He loved the beach and the ocean and spent many years at his summer home in Maine. He was a dog lover and frequently had a dachshund or 3 or 4 around wagging their tails. He worked his final years as a Hospice nurse for the VNA of Boston.
He leaves his significant other, Jeffrey Stadtmiller of Medford, sister Carol Catalano and her husband Paul of Methuen, nephew Paul Catalano Jr. and his wife Michelle of Reading, nephew Anthony Catalano and his wife Karen of Wilmington, and his life-long friend Wes Rosen of Medford.
A Funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony Church, 12 Propezi Way, Somerville, on Saturday, November 26 at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday, November 25, in the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, from 4 through 8 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Stanley's name to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA, 01970.
