Obituary

TIVERTON – Sandra L. Furtado, age 56 of Tiverton, passed away on Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph R. and Josephine N. (Cavaca) Furtado. A graduate of Tiverton H.S. and B.C.C. where she received her Associates of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies, Sandra was currently working as the Store Manager for the Tin Can Sailors Veterans Organization in Somerset.

Sandra was the sister of the late Lauren Atwood, and her husband Bob of Tiverton, Michael J. Furtado, and his wife Kelly of Tiverton, Melissa M. Nestor, and her husband Tim of Fall River, and Melanie J. Furtado of Tiverton. Her 5 nieces & nephews, Patricia “Tricia” Lynn Atwood, Ryan J. Nestor, Taylor N. Furtado, Dylan J. Furtado, & Tyler P. Nestor.

Sandra donated to the Food Pantry in Tiverton and Volunteered at the Potter League for Animals in Middletown, RI. She then became a Dog Trainer at the Potter League, and with her dog Sophia became G.C.D. Certified to provide therapy, comfort and support to patients and their families at Nursing Homes.

In addition to taking Sophia for walks, attending agility classes and visiting patients, Sandra loved to sew, making Halloween costumes for her nieces and nephews, and tracing her family ancestry. She loved watching hockey and supported her nephews Ryan & Tyler during their hockey games, enjoyed doing her nieces Tricia & Taylor’s hair before attending their dance recitals, and enjoyed watching her nephew Dylan play baseball, soccer, and lacrosse.

Sandra will be missed by her family and friends, but especially by her dog Sophia

Following cremation, family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Sandra on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016 at 12:00 P.M. with calling hours from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. in the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. 1521 N.
