Joan E. (Garrity) Fagan, 86, a Franklin resident since 1960, died peacefully, Saturday November 19, 2016 at the Maples Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham, following an extended period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of Gerald T. Fagan, former Director of the Franklin Department of Public Works.
Born in Boston, March 3, 1930, a daughter of the late John and Ernestine (Keough) Garrity, she was raised in Dorchester and educated at St. Gregory's Parochial School in Dorchester. Upon graduating from the Fay School for Young Ladies, she worked as a legal secretary. Joan worked and retired from the Town of Franklin, where she worked as a data entry clerk in the Town Clerk's office for many years.
She enjoyed the theater, the arts, summer vacations in West Hyannisport and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband of 64 years are 3 sons, Shawn G. Fagan and his wife Deanne of Putnam, CT, Scott C. Fagan and his wife Joanne of Stoneham, Gary Fagan of Cumberland, RI, 5 daughters, Paula E. Stock and her husband Paul of Foxboro, Pamela A. Alger and her husband Joseph of Franklin, Patricia D. Jaworski and her husband Edward of Norfolk, Priscilla J. Arsenault of Foxboro, Petrina Fisher and her husband James of Holliston. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She is the sister of the late Paul Garrity.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday Nov. 23rd, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Jude Church 86 Main St. Norfolk at 10AM.
Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Franklin.
