Obituary

Helen Louise (Jones) Newell, 90, passed to her heavenly reward with her husband and daughters by her side at home on November 15, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was born to Andrew Earl and Helen Edith (Phillips) Jones on December 21, 1925 in Hutchinson, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Earl Junior and Richard. She is survived by her husband, Arlo Frederic Newell whom she married on August 1, 1947 at the First Church of God, Hutchinson, KS. Helen is also survived by her three children, Rebecca Suzonne Douglas (Rex), Samme Le Rousopoulos (Deno) and Eric Frederic Newell (Bonnie); grandchildren Rose Wallis (Ryan), Cassie Kirkpatrick, Steven Rousopoulos (fiancé Bevin Callan), Kyle Douglas (Cortney), Joel Newell (Jennifer), Miriam Chadwell (Shawn) and Kate Rousopoulos; great grandchildren David Kirkpatrick, Hailey Kirkpatrick, Bella Newell, Phoebe Wallis, Gabby Newell, Maverick Wallis, Jeremiah Newell, Keldan Douglas, Noah Chadwell and Kendree Douglas. She is also survived by her two sisters, Barbara Jean Jones of Newton, KS and Karen Mae Jones of Moundridge, KS.
Helen became a Christ follower when she was a child and throughout her life wanted to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with people of all ages. She graduated with honors from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK. Together she and Arlo ministered in the Church of God (Anderson, IN) in Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri and Ohio. During these years she served as church pianist and organist, Christian educator (teaching and guiding many young couples), consummate homemaker (best pies and flakiest crusts) and seamstress. She loved to explore the arts making many hand stitched quilts, needle crafts and paintings. Returning to Anderson in the late 70’s she earned her masters from Anderson University where she taught as an adjunct instructor in the Bible department for twelve years
Helen lived life to the fullest by sharing her passions for homemaking, education and music in everything she did, especially her family. She has been an active member of the Park Place Church of God for almost 40 years.
Visitation will be at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. A service of celebration of her life will be on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the Park Place Church of God at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Maplewood Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newell Lectureship at the School of Theology and Christian Ministry at Anderson University, 1100 East Fifth Street, Anderson, IN 46012
