George H. Wilkinson, Jr., 85, of East Freetown died November 20, 2016 peacefully at home.
He was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" (Silva) Wilkinson.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George H. and Isabelle (Roderick) Wilkinson, he lived in East Freetown most of his life.
Mr. Wilkinson was formerly employed as a sheet metal worker with the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 17 in Boston and Local 501 in New Bedford for 60 years. He served as vice president and president for 15 years and served on the executive board for 8 years.
Mr. Wilkinson served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, dancing and spending time at his condo in Algarve, Portugal.
Survivors include his wife; a son, George H. Wilkinson, III of Manchester, NH; 3 daughters, Robin Meunier and her husband Paul of Rochester, Paula Wilkinson and Arlene Wilkinson and her husband Robert Gleason, all of Lakeville; a brother, Robert Wilkinson and his wife Maria "Paz" of New Bedford; a step-daughter, Marybeth Amador and her companion Richard Pease of Assonet; 4 grandchildren, Katelyn Meunier of Acushnet, Kristen Meunier of New Bedford, Kara Meunier of Albany, NY and Ashley Wilkinson and her husband Jonas "Matt" Williamson of Rock Spring, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the step-father of the late James Nunes, grandfather of the late Aaron Wilkinson and the brother of the late Roger Wilkinson.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 25th at 11 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. His family will receive guest on Friday morning from 9 - 11 AM prior to his service. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Meeting Street School, 1000 Eddy St., Providence, RI 02905.
