September 27, 1920 - November 3, 2016
Marjorie E. Walsh, 96, of Wellesley, MA passed away on November 3 of 2016. She was born in Boston, MA, September 27, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Muller) Schreiber. Marjorie was the beloved wife of Richard J. Walsh “Dick”, for 62 years until his death in November 5 of 2004. She and her husband have lived in Wellesley since 1944, where they raised their children Sandra (Walsh) Gordy and Steven Walsh.
Marjorie graduated from Roslindale High School in 1938, and from The Fay School of Boston in 1940. She worked as secretary for Shawmut Bank of Boston, as a crossing guard at Hardy School for 13 years, and as secretary to the Guidance Director at Wellesley High School for 23 years. She was president of West Roxbury Junior Women’s Club from 1944-1945. Marjorie and her husband Dick were recipients of the 2004 Veterans Honor Award from the Wellesley Celebrations Committee for their active volunteer participation over the years in numerous veterans community activities. The proud couple was honored for this award in the 36th Annual Wellesley parade in 2004. In her later years, Margie was recognized for her involvement in the Legacy Project, conducted by Cornell University, and quoted in their publication “30 Lessons for Living.” She was also an admired storyteller and inspiring mentor for young adults in the prestigious Sages and Seekers program.
Marjorie was the loving mother of Sandra J. Gordy and her husband David Gordy; and of Steven R. Walsh and his wife Sylvie Walsh. She was the dear grandmother to Kristin Gordy, Allison Walsh Haddix (Ryan Haddix), and Mallory Laura Walsh; and adored by great-grandchild Marlena Haddix. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dottie Schreiber Kane of Quincy, MA.
Marjorie was a true romantic, profound conversationalist, and devoted wife and mother. She always found joy in life and reminded everyone that no matter what happens - never stop laughing. She lived her last days enjoying the sunny breezes of St. Augustine, Florida in the comforts of the family home of Steve and Sylvie Walsh. Marjorie was a beautiful, loving soul and she will be greatly missed.

I see them bloom for me and you,
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world”
