Obituary

Richard M. Noyes, 82, of Chester, NH died peacefully at his home, Thursday, November 17, 2016 after years of declining health while surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Chester on September 1, 1934 to the late Warren and Evelyn (Lane) Noyes. Mr. Noyes was a devoted Chester resident living with the same half mile of Route 102 his entire life. After graduating from Raymond High School in 1952, he joined the US Air Force in 1953 and spent one tour in Korea. He then went to work for the Chester Telephone Co. whose name later changed to Granite State Telephone and is now known as Granite State Communications. He retired in 1998 after 40 years with the company but remained on the Board of Directors for another 12 years.

He served the town on the Chester Budget Committee, Chester Historical Society, Trustee of the Great Hill Cemetery and over 20 years as a Chester Volunteer Firefighter. He was also a charter member of the Chester Lions Club.

In his retirement years he enjoyed playing golf each week in the Senior League at Hoodkroft Country Club, and working in his workshop making furniture for his family and friends. He loved being outdoors landscaping his yard, mowing his lawns and cutting, splitting and stacking wood. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Richard is survived by his three children, Suzanne Driscoll and her husband Tom, Dianne Kunelius and her husband Ed, and Mark Noyes, one brother, George Noyes and his wife Linda, a sister-in-law, Candy Noyes, as well as eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Sally (Grant) Noyes in 2008, and by his oldest brother, Warren Noyes on February 13, 2016.

Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Friday, November 25th from 5 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26th at 11:00am in the Chester Congregational Church, 4 Chester St., Chester. Burial with honors will follow in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chester Historical Society, PO Box 34, Chester, NH 03036 or to the Wason Pounder @ Chester Charitable Foundation, PO Box 333, Chester, NH 03036.
