Rachel A. (Gregoire) Neves, 70, of North Dartmouth died May 27, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.She was the wife of Joseph T. Neves, Jr. They had been married for 51 years.
Born in Fairhaven, the daughter of the late Norbert and Laura (Benoit) Gregoire, she lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Dartmouth.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she was active in the seven month club.
Mrs. Neves had been the owner of Neves Mini-Bus Company and was co-owner and board member of Whaling City Transit. Now semi-retired, she worked part-time as a receptionist at Whaling City Transit. She had also previously been employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
Mrs. Neves was a member of the Faunce Corner Wellness Center. She was a religious woman, who enjoyed working in her family business, cooking, serving, catering, cake-decorating, and being with people. She was known for her sense of humor and for her generosity in giving of her time and assistance to anyone in need. She was a self-taught organist and enjoyed music.
Survivors include her husband; 2 daughters, Linda M. Chase and her husband David, and Patricia A. Parkin and her husband Gary Morris, all of New Bedford; 5 sons, Donald J. Neves and his wife Mary of North Dartmouth, Robert J. Neves and his wife Lisa of Fairhaven, Stephen J. Neves and his wife Mary, Kenneth J. Neves, and Joseph A. Neves and his wife Kathleen, all of New Bedford; 2 sisters Cecile Arruda of Fairhaven, and Claire Tremblay and her husband Leo of Wareham; a brother, Laurent Gregoire and his wife Theresa of Wareham; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
