William H. "Bill" O'Neil Jr., a longtime resident of Charlestown and formerly of Cambridge, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 82 years old.
Bill was born in Cambridge on May 19, 1934, a son of the late William H. O'Neil and Rose (Madden) O'Neil. He grew up in East Cambridge where he was educated in the Cambridge Public School system. Bill worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an Engineer for the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority and retired after over 25 years of dedicated service. Bill was very grateful as was his family for the friendship given to him by his many friends at the 100 Ferrin Street Complex.
Bill is the beloved husband of the late Margaret M. (Dunbar) O'Neil. He is the devoted father of Margaret Baker and her husband Joseph of Saugus and Maureen O'Neil of Saugus. He is the loving Papa to Megan O'Neil. He is the dear brother-in-law of Sally Robinson and Rita Dunbar. He is the beloved brother of the late Louise O'Neil, Margaret Groom, Theresa Ryan and Rose Lydon. He is also lovingly survived by his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Funeral on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
