Chester J. Witkowski, 83, passed away Friday, August 12, 2005, in Autumn Village Nursing Home. His wife of 59 years Iola (St. Martin) Witkowski passed away in 2003. He leaves a daughter Linda Higgins of Harwich, a son Chester Witkowski, Jr., and his wife Jane of Paxton, two grandsons, Steven Higgins of Harwich and Mark Russell of Templeton, a great-grandson Zachary Russell of Templeton, nephews and nieces, and a sister Stasia Szufat of ME. A brother Bernie and a sister Florence Sanderson predeceased him.
Chet was a self employed builder for many years. He was a past 3 time commander of Paxton Legion Post 306, and a life member of the DAV. Chet was a WWII veteran of the Navy with ABF PT Boat Squadron 7. Born in Worcester to the late Mary (Szajer) and Frank Witkowski, he lived most of his life in Paxton before retiring to DeBary FL 14 years ago. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
There will be a memorial mass for Chester and Iola at 10:00am at St. Columba Church, Paxton on Saturday, August 20, 2005. Burial at Mooreland Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, P.O. Box 808, Hudson, MA 01749-0808. Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St., Worcester is directing arrangements.
