Obituary

ENFIELD, CT – Claire B. (Chretien) LaFleur, 102, of Enfield, CT and a former longtime resident of Ravine Street in the Aldenville section of Chicopee, MA, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, November 17, 2016. She passed into Eternal Life at the Parkway Pavilion Health and Rehabilitation Center in Enfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada on February 1, 1914, a beloved daughter of the late Jules and Exilia (Brochu) Chretien. She moved to Holyoke, MA with her family around 1919, attended Precious Blood Grammar School in Holyoke. She moved to Aldenville in 1944 where she lived for many years before moving to Enfield in 1999. She was employed for 30 years as a cook for Rev. Albert Breton at the former Saint Theresa Church and the former Saint Louis de France Church, both in West Springfield. Active in her Catholic faith, she was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where she also was a member of the Ladies of Saint Ann Sodality of the Church. Above all, she loved her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Rosario P. LaFleur who was Called Home on October 14, 1971. They were married on October 10, 1936 at Precious Blood Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 35 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving daughters, Sister Elaine C. LaFleur, PM of the Sisters of Presentation of Mary in Biddeford, ME and M. Diane Fredrick and her husband, David, of Enfield; her two cherished grandchildren, David J. Fredrick, II and his wife, Marie, of Newton, MA and Linda E. Fredrick of Enfield; her three cherished great-granddaughters, Ellen M. Fredrick of Enfield and Olivia M. Fredrick and Gabrielle D. Fredrick, both of Newton; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the LaFleur and Chretien families. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brother, Joseph Chretien; and her two dear sisters, Aurore Descoteaux and Julia Patnode. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, November 21, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 7:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Marie Joseph Spiritual Center, 10 Evans Road, Biddeford, ME 04005.
