Obituary

BELMONT - Philip Kingsley Van Hagen, 69, of 136 Wildlife Boulevard, passed away at home on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer with his wife and Lab at his side.

Philip was born on August 9, 1947 in Oceanside, NY, the son of Charles S. and Madeleine (Kingsley) Van Hagen. After graduating from high school in Plymouth, NH, he joined the United States Navy, rising to the rank of FTG2 and being awarded the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (5 Stars), the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). Following his discharge from the Navy, Philip returned to school and earned a degree in Engineering from NHTI. Philip spent the next three decades working as both hardware and software design engineer for several companies including Wilcom and Noyes Fiber Systems. He retired in 2010.

Philip married the love of his life, Jeannette Laramie in October of 1983. Phil was a communicant and Lector at St. Joseph Parish in Belmont, a member of the NRA as well as Sunset Mountain Fish and Game Club and a lifetime member of Harley Owners Group. Phil and Jeannette spent many pleasant hours wondering the back roads and byways of New England on their Harley, including trips to West Virginia to visit Jeannette's sister and husband on Morning Mist Farm. He loved to walk daily with his wife and dog. Phil was never quick to judge anyone and saw the good in people.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Guay) Van Hagen of Belmont, his two children; Jennifer Van Hagen Green and her partner Lenny of Moraiva, NY and Timothy Van Hagen and his fiancée Jessica of Powder Springs, GA, his two stepchildren; Kelly Laramie and her partner Eric Saunders of Laconia and Mark Laramie of Belmont, three grandchildren; Logan and MacKenzie Van Hagen of GA and Kyle Green of NY, two sisters; Sandy Van Hagen and Karen White and her husband David, both of Belmont, a nephew, Christopher White, his mother-in-law, Eva (Rollins) Guay of Laconia, his sister-in-law, Norma Smith and her husband Ken of WV and his beloved Lab, Bella. Philip was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Madeleine, both in 2015, his father-in-law, Louis "Pete" Guay in 2006, his brother-in-law, Joseph Frisbie in 2003 and his beloved Sheltie, CECE, in 2013.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Saint Joseph Parish, 96 Main Street, Belmont followed by a luncheon.

Burial with military honors will follow at 1PM on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in the family plot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia for those who wish to attend.
