Downey, John J. Jr., Esq. of Quincy passed away after a short illness on November 14, 2016. Born in Boston, Atty. Downey graduated from Catholic Memorial High School, Boston College and Suffolk Law School. A U.S. Army veteran he served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a criminal defense lawyer who had his own law firm in Quincy and worked in Immigration Law. The beloved wife of Catherine Ko-Downey, he was the loving stepfather of Christina Ko and her partner Loretta Chan and Samson Ko, all of Hong Kong. Atty. Downey was the dedicated father figure of Wei Ying Lin and her husband Jeff Chan of Hong Kong, Elaine Lin and her husband Tim Wang of Virginia, and Leslie Lin of Shanghai, China and dear brother of Jeanne K. Downey of Sudbury and the late Lorraine E. Coe and Marie G. Downey.
Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton on Sunday November 20 from 2pm to 5pm. John was a longtime Friend of Bill W. and an hour of remembrance will be held later that night from 6 to 7 PM. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in N. Quincy on Monday November 21 at 10am. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Shrine of St Anthony, 100 Arch Street, Boston 02110 (www.stanthonyshrine.org).
