Obituary

CHICOPEE – John R. Danielson, 87, a longtime resident of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, November 12, 2016. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Boston on January 29, 1929, a beloved son of the late John and Mary J. (Silva) Danielson. He was raised and schooled in Boston. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1968 at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Following his military service, he settled in the Willimansett section of Chicopee where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was employed as a mechanic at the former Gagne Service Station in Willimansett for many years. John was a member of the Westover NCO Club, the Buffalo Club, the Fairview American Legion Post 438 and the German Club, all in Chicopee. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Rose M. (Scaramella) Danielson who was Called Home on March 19, 1985. He leaves his five loving children, Paul R. Danielson and his wife, Jean, of Colorado Springs, CO, Joan Raffa and her husband, Gregory, of Redding, CA, John M. Danielson, of Chicopee, Christine Malloy of Covington, WA, and Susan Robinson and her husband, Norman, of Chicopee. In addition, he leaves his fifteen cherished grandchildren; ten cherished great-grandchildren; and many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Daniel Campbell. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Service of Committal with United States Air Force Military Honors on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
