Dora "Bernice" Andrews Fender, 94, of Forest, Virginia, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at the Runk and Pratt Memory Care Facility in Forest, Virginia. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Enigma Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 15, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Born December 29, 1921 in Enigma, Bernice was the daughter of the late Corbin Babe Andrews and Dora Belle Lewis Andrews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John David “J.D.” Fender; three brothers, Frank, Buren and C. B.; and two sisters, Annie Lou Gunn and Claudia Fletcher.
After marrying in 1940, Bernice returned with her husband, J. D., to New York City, where he worked in the Bethlehem Shipyard. After World War II, they moved to Miami, Florida and lived there during his working career. In 1983, they moved to Sanford, North Carolina and lived there during his retirement. She was a homemaker and member of Jonesboro Baptist Church in Sanford, North Carolina.
Bernice is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Zoraida Fender; and twin grandsons, Joel and Wesley, all of Forest, Virginia.
