John Alan Rathbun, born in 1930 to Capt. Benjamin F. Rathbun and Anna Johnson Rathbun, passed on November 10, 2016, due to complications of Luewy Body Disease. A Noank native, he was a graduate of Fitch Senior High School and UCONN. He joined the ROTC and served in the Korean War. He worked for 35 years as a computer analyst for the phone company.
For 40 years, John was an active participant of AA, helping others achieve sobriety.
John, AKA “Ben’s brother,” was predeceased by his wife Evelyn and his beloved dog Cleo, the Wonder Dog. He is survived by his children Laura R. Hall, John Rathbun, Nancy Rathbun, James A. Rathbun and their mother Pat Mayo. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Elise Cain, Cynthia Dragon, Rachelle Barron and his grandchildren, Kyle Hall, Ellie Hall and Julia Rathbun and his step grandchildren, Elliot Cain, David Dragon, Matthew Dragon, Kathryn Dixon and Thea Dixon and his caregivers Bernie Mullins and Douglas Bennett.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic with Pastor Vicki Burdick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Hospice.
