John Cyril Barker
WWII Navy Veteran
John Cyril Barker, a veteran of WWII, died Nov 9th at his home in Tewksbury, Mass at the age of 93.
He was born in Lowell and lived in North Tewksbury his entire life.
John was the son of Cyril L. Barker and Jane (Boy) Barker, born on Nov 13, 1922.
He had one older brother Gerald and a younger sister Gwen.
John married his sweetheart Ruth Harriet Loynes of Centerville, Lowell on June 19, 1948.
He is survived by their three sons, Steven J. Barker (Rita) of Roseville, California; Robert A. Barker (Sally) of Berlin, Mass; and David G. Barker (Brenda) of Pepperell, Mass.
Proudly serving in the Navy overseas on Iwo Jima as part of CASU 52 working as an Aviation Machinist Mate. John worked for AT&T for 38 years as a PBX Installer retiring in June 1984. He enjoyed both his working years and years of retirement and will always be remembered as a “great guy.” He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are Monday, Nov. 14, from 4-8 p.m., at Farmer and Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Memorial services will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Tewksbury Cemetery.
