Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Barbara M. (Palazzesi) Dobiecki, 83, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. She passed peacefully into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Springfield on December 8, 1932, a beloved daughter of the late Antonio and Eunice (Cesteri) Palazzesi. She was raised in Springfield, graduated in 1951 from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was employed as a Paraprofessional for the Springfield School Department for many years and had worked at Bridge Academy, the Bowles School and Forest Park Middle School, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Le Stelle D’Italia Women’s Club at the Italian Cultural Center, the Carew Street Branch of the Golden Age Club and the Rosary Sodality at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, all in Springfield and she was also a member of the Polish Women’s Alliance in Chicopee. She was a fun-loving and devoted wife, mom, Nonna and friend. Always quick with a smile or a joke, she always helped and thought of others before thinking of herself. An excellent Italian cook, she was always creating many of her own recipes and contributed them to various cookbooks. She loved passing on these wonderful recipes to her daughter, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. A wonderful Nonna to her grandchildren, she also was a grandmother to many of her grandchildren’s friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Walter Dobiecki who was Called Home on October 27, 1988. They were married on May 8, 1954 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in the South End section of Springfield and were blessed with over 34 years of happiness together. She leaves her loving daughter and best friend, Linda M. Dobiecki of Springfield with whom she lived; her two loving sons, John W. Dobiecki and his wife, Isabelle, and James F. Dobiecki and his wife, Charlene, all of Ludlow; her five cherished grandchildren, Derek Dobiecki and his wife, Enza, and Alex, Jared, Joshua and Christine Dobiecki; her expected cherished great-granddaughter in February of 2017; her dear sister, Gloria McCarthy and her husband, Raymond, of Springfield; her dear brother, Tony Palazzesi and his wife, Virginia, of Somers, CT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dobiecki and Palazzesi families. She also leaves her faithful feline companion, her cat Dorothy. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her three dear sisters, Edith M. Cavicchioli and her husband, Thomas, Ann Marie Palazzesi and Dora Agrapides and her husband, Dennis. Her funeral will be held on Monday morning, November 14, 2016 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Thomas Cemetery, 415 Kings Highway, West Springfield, MA 01089. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, (Please specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Dakin Humane Society, P.O.
