Obituary

Litchfield, NH – Richard “Dick” Roulx, 89, passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2016, in his Litchfield home.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Noga Roulx. He was born Feb. 25, 1927 to Wilfred and Hazel Bennett Roulx, in Manchester, NH.

Richard leaves a legacy of love and devotion to family to his eight daughters, MaryEllen Bayko and husband Tom, of Denver, CO., Diane Cartier and husband Les, of Laconia, NH, Gail Bourque and husband Roger, of Manchester, NH, Cynthia Nugent and husband Paul of Methuen, MA, Patrice Provencher and husband Kevin, of Manchester, NH, Lisa Nevins and husband Robert of Cornish, NH, Paula Van Den Berghe and husband Donald, of Manchester, NH and Christine Zimmermann of York, ME. In addition to 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, he is survived by his brother Kenneth Roulx and his wife Doris, of Granby, CT and his cousin Evelyn Bennett Blair.

Richard attended Hallsville Elementary School and Central High School. Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Navy, at 17 years old, and was assigned to duty in the Pacific Theater, based in San Francisco. While stationed in San Francisco he began his 70 year relationship with Ruth Noga, who was attending journalism school in the city. After the war ended they returned to Manchester and were married Aug. 10, 1946. Richard graduated from Bentley University with a degree in accounting, and went on to get a degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University. Upon graduation he was employed as ‘the’ hospital accountant at Booth Memorial Hospital in Brookline, MA. He then attained a position with Faltin Transportation Company, in Manchester, NH, as their business manager. Mr. Roulx went on to become the business manager of Hillsborough County, where he served the county diligently for 26 years before retiring. Upon retiring he was appointed as a dispute mediator for the New Hampshire State Labor relations board.

Richard was an expert alpine skier, working as a ski instructor at the former Crotched Mountain Ski area as well as Pat’s Peak ski area. Additionally, he served as ski school director at the former Highland Ski area. Always involved with his daughter’s athletic activities, he coached girl’s high school ski teams and had the distinction of serving as the first male president of the Swift Water Girl Scout Council. His civic involvement included many years as the President of the Manchester Exchange Club and Manchester Community Concerts.

There are no calling hours. However, a Memorial Mass celebrating Richard’s life will take place Friday, Nov. 18, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Litchfield, NH at 10:30 a.m. followed by a military burial at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
