SALEM – Althea E. (Simard) Languirand, 93, wife of the late Arthur A. Languirand, Sr., formerly of Salem, died Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center, Revere, following a long illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Ludger and Viola (Clocher) Simard and was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1940. She was a member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church until moving to Winthrop to be closer to her family.
After graduation from high school, Althea was employed as a telephone operator by the New England Telephone Company, where she worked until leaving to raise her family. When she returned to work in the early 1970’s, she was employed as a switchboard operator at Salem Hospital until her retirement in the late 1980’s.
Mrs. Languirand is survived by her daughter-in-law, Louisa Languirand of Winthrop, 6 grandchildren including Ronald Jr., and wife, Candace Languirand, and Arthur and his wife Rebecca Languirand, and 2 great grandchildren, Reid and Gabe. She was predeceased by two sons, Arthur A. Languirand, Jr. and Ronald Languirand, Sr.
Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
