Obituary

Nancy E. Davey, 89, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2016 at Miriam Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John P. Davey, Sr. They were married for 40 years before his death in 1989.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Percy J. and Georgianna (Perry) Hill and lived in North Providence for the last 25 years previously living in Greenville for 35 years where she raised her 12 children and was a communicant of St. Philip Parish.

Nancy graduated from Mount Pleasant High School where she was Class President and enjoyed attending their annual class reunion dinners. Prior to her marriage Nancy held several secretarial positions. Upon her marriage Nancy assisted her husband after the war with his college coursework while raising six children by the time he graduated. After raising her family Nancy worked as a secretary for seven years and then worked for her husband at his tax preparation and accounting office.

Nancy was a dedicated volunteer at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital for 19 years.

She was an accomplished pianist and played for the Silvertones at her residence, Brook Village, for 8 years and was secretary for the Brook Village Association for many years. Nancy had many hobbies, music and playing the piano being her first love, knitting, crocheting, bingo, oil painting, playing cards, reading, stamp collecting, and recording old movies and showing them to her friends.

She was the beloved mother of Michael of Harrisville, Christina (David) Bauver of Winchendon, MA, Mary Ann Hughes of Cumberland, Catherine (Mario) Furtado of West Warwick, John, Jr. (Mary Ellen) of Greenville, Paul of Harrisville, Peter (Kathryn) of Coventry, James (Connie Resendes) of North Smithfield, Raymund of Pawtucket, Patricia Davey-Anthony (David) of Smithfield, Francis (Linda) of Smithfield, and Christopher (fiancé Tammy Newton) of Weathersfield, VT. She was the loving grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was the loving sister of the late Regina Lamphier and the beloved mother-in-law of the late Joel S. Hughes.

She was the sister-in-law of Mary (Davey) Dionne, Charles and Fannie Davey, Christina Davey, Charles Hogan and the late Brother Raymund Davey, FSC, Catherine (Davey) Hogan, Herve Dionne, and Henry Lamphier and llving aunt of many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her many friends at Brook Village whom she treasured. She always enjoyed the company of others and brought joy to those around her.

Nancy was a devoted and dedicated mother to her children who were the center of her life. Her greatest joy was family gatherings. She will be loved and greatly missed.

She was a faithful communicant of Mary, Mother of Mankind Church. She practiced her faith and prayed the rosary each day instilling her values in her family.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 8:30 am from Anderson- Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, North Providence. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery. Visitation Friday, November 11th from 4:00-7:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Mary, Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth Street, North Providence, RI 02911.
