Obituary

Marion Edward “Hank” Dant, 89, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016. He was the loving spouse of Bertie “Ann” (Tinsley) Dant, who shared 61 years of marriage. He is survived by his three sons, Tim (Rhonda) Dant, Dallas, TX, John (Noot) Dant, Ridgeland, MS, Rick (Jackie) Dant, Shepherdsville, KY, along with six grandchildren, Christopher, Jacqueline, Benjamin, Adam, Leanne and McKenzie. Surviving siblings include his brother Ray (Beverly) Dant, and his sister, Estelle Ubben. He is preceded in death by Mother, Mary Estelle Bowling Dant, Father, William Washington Dant, brothers, Wallace, Joe, Bill, and Carroll and sisters, Dorothy Stuempel, Martha Biven, and Ann DiBenedetto. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who appreciated his occasional sarcasm and sense of humor and various nicknames for all of them. He attended Holy Cross, Christ the King, St. Xavier High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Flaget High, class of 1945. He was a charter member of Club 32 at Holy Cross Church.
Hank retired as a Gunnery Sergeant from the US Marine Corps Reserves after 20 years of service (1945-1966) and served his country in World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Service Supply Co. in 1992. He was a charter member of Incarnation Catholic Church. He helped start the still active summer softball program, coaching and playing until he was 65. A devout Catholic, he served as head usher for 26 years and volunteered in many capacities, garnering him the Incarnation Catholic Church Stewardship, 2009. He was a wonderful craftsman and artist who loved to build birdhouses, model ships and various items for his grandkids and the garden. He was a passionate Notre Dame and Yankees fan who loved history and travel.
Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 A.M. at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2229 Lower Hunters Trace with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 10 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Hosparus of Louisville, Mass of the Air or a charity of your choice.
