BEVERLY: John J. Hannon, 77, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 5, 2016 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Walsh) Hannon who died in 2010.
Born on November 4, 1939 to Patrick and Mary (McDevitt) Hannon at Ipswich Hospital, John lived briefly in Hamilton then moved to Beverly Farms. John attended elementary school in Beverly Farms, graduated from St. John’s Prep in 1957 and Merrimac College in 1962. John married the love of his life, Mary Jane (Walsh) on August 25, 1962 and spent 47 wonderful and happy years together.
John worked as an accountant for Honeywell for thirty years and then finished his professional career with Congregational Retirement Home in Melrose. His real passion was his job at Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly as launch coordinator. His worst day boating was better than his best day working.
John is survived by his daughter, Tricia and her husband, Ron McGrath of Beverly; his son, Tim and his wife, Jess Hannon of Beverly; five grandchildren, Alexis Hannon, Autumn Hannon, John Hannon, Shane McGrath and Wyatt McGrath all of Beverly; his two siblings, Pej and her husband, Steve Powers of Beverly Farms and Tom Hannon of New Haven, CT; his sister-in-law, June Walsh and brother-in-law, Gelean Campbell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Gayle Hannon, his sister, Eileen (Hannon) Campbell, his brother-in-laws, John Walsh and Billy Walsh and his sister-in-law Julie (Lam) Hannon. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him especially his five grandchildren, who lovingly called him Kook.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held on Saturday in the North Beverly Cemetery at 10 a.m.
