Mary Elizabeth Jones, 99, of Chelmsford, formerly of Medway, MA, died Friday November 4th at the Westford House in Westford, MA.
Born in Medway, Massachusetts on August 27, 1917, daughter of the late James Edward and Lillian Mary (Reardon) Jones, she attended Medway High School and later on secretarial school.
She lived for a time in Virginia, and worked there as a secretary at the Atomic Energy Commision. After this job, she travelled to Illinois and helped her boss establish the MBA program at Illinois State University. Following the death of her father in 1954, she moved back to the family home in Medway, and took a job with Houghton Mifflin publishing company in Boston.
Her home beside the Charles River allowed her to enjoy her hobbies of bird watching and photography. Mary also enjoyed writing poetry and found inspiration in the nature that surrounded her home.
Mary was predeceased by her thirteen siblings: brothers Edward, Leo, Thomas, James, Charles, Joseph, Robert, and Richard, and sisters Mabel, (infant) Lena, Thelma, Lillian, and Esther.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as their children and grandchildren.
She was a loving and much loved aunt and friend and will be sadly missed.
Calling hours are Tuesday, November 8, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St., Medway, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in Medway Wednesday November 9, at 10 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Medway.
